Hollow is a psychological horror short I co-wrote and directed, following Emma, a woman unraveling after the loss of her baby, who becomes convinced that a child's voice is calling to her from behind a locked closet door in her family's new home. As her husband Henry grows more certain she's losing her grip on reality, the film sits deliberately in that unresolved space between grief, haunting, and psychosis, never quite letting the audience decide which one they're watching.
The brief here was tonal control: a slow-burn build that plays out almost entirely through two people in a house, where the horror lives less in the closet than in the widening distance between a couple who love each other and can't reach each other anymore. It was also my first sustained exercise in suspense pacing long silences, false relief, a scare structure built on repetition and denial before the final reveal breaks it wide open.
Hollow was completed in 2025 and stands as an early proof of concept for the tonal range I wanted Synscope to be known for genre-literate, character-first, and unafraid to leave the audience sitting in ambiguity.
